Role: Release Manager
Location: St. Louis, MO
Required Skills
- Release Management:
- Minimum 6+ years of experience as a Release Manager.
- Experience using release management tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.).
- Ability to handle software infrastructure and configuration management.
- Agile Experience:
- At least 6+ years of experience in Agile practices (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP, SAFe).
- Understanding and application of SAFe 4.0 Value Streams, Kanban, Lean, XP, and Scrum techniques.
- Experience with PI/PSI planning and other SAFe/DAD ceremonies.
- Strong background in leading Agile Scrum teams.
- Agile Techniques:
- Familiarity with User Stories, ATDD, TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Testing, Automated Testing, Agile Games.
- Ability to apply a variety of techniques to address gaps in the Scrum process (e.g., burn-down techniques, retrospectives, handling bugs).
- Communication & Coordination:
- Experience communicating release plans and changes to various stakeholders.
- Strong ability to coordinate between teams in multiple locations.
- Clear and concise communication of release schedules, ensuring alignment with other stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage risks and resolve challenges impacting release scope, quality, and schedules.
- Tools & Technologies:
- Foundational knowledge of Scrum Master tool-set (Jira, Confluence, Zoom).
- Understanding of the technologies used by development teams to ensure compatibility and readiness.
- General Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and logical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage release milestones, deployment, and run books.
- Experience producing and validating release notes.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Managing the Release Process:
- Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of software releases.
- Manage release windows, cycles, and deployments across multiple portfolios or components.
- Ensure alignment with business and technical requirements during the release process.
- Risk Management & Problem Resolution:
- Address challenges impacting release scope, quality, and timelines.
- Mitigate risks and ensure successful delivery within the specified budget and quality standards.
- Coordination & Communication:
- Maintain regular communication with business and technical teams.
- Manage relationships with vendors, stakeholders, and other teams, ensuring clear and timely updates.
- Communicate release details and changes to stakeholders at all levels.
- Release Readiness & Deployment:
- Conduct release readiness reviews to assess the progress and prepare for deployment.
- Ensure deployment preparation (including testing environments, integration, and dependencies).
- Work with release engineers on code merges, branch management, and ensure that deliverables are production-ready.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate release schedules.
- Create and validate deployment plans, implementation guides, and run books.
- Oversee the creation of technical guides and training materials for external teams or clients.
Mandatory Experience
- 10+ years of IT experience, with 6+ years as Release Manager.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, specifically in SAFe and Disciplined Agile Development (DAD).
- Strong background in managing and leading teams, particularly in Agile environments.
- Deep experience with release management tools and Agile tooling (Jira, Confluence).
- Solid understanding of continuous integration and automated testing techniques.
Additional Desirable Skills
- Certifications such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) would be advantageous.
- Advanced Agile knowledge and the ability to drive continuous improvement within teams.
