Role: Hashicorp Engineer

Location: Remote

Job Description:

1. Vault Migration:

• Lead the migration of sensitive data from self-managed HashiCorp Vault Enterprise to HashiCorp HCP Vault Dedicated.
• Plan, execute, and manage the migration process to ensure a smooth transition with minimal downtime or data loss.
• Perform thorough validation of data integrity post-migration to ensure that sensitive data is securely and accurately transferred.

1. Vault Administration & Security:

• Administer and configure HCP Vault Dedicated to align with organizational security policies and compliance requirements.
• Implement and manage policies, secrets engines, and authentication methods in Vault, ensuring that sensitive data is protected and only accessible by authorized users.
• Apply security best practices to configure encryption, key management, and audit logging to safeguard data.

1. Terraform Automation:

• Automate the deployment and configuration of Vault using Terraform.
• Develop and maintain reusable Terraform modules to automate Vault setup, security policies, and integrations with other services.
• Use Terraform for continuous infrastructure provisioning, making sure that Vault is deployed in a repeatable, scalable, and secure manner.

1. Cloud Infrastructure Integration:

• Collaborate with cloud infrastructure teams to ensure HCP Vault Dedicated is properly integrated with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and compliance standards for the Vault deployment in the cloud.
• Support cloud-native security practices, integrating Vault with cloud-native tools and services for sensitive data management.

1. Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution:

• Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to Vault performance, security vulnerabilities, or migration challenges.
• Optimize Vault and cloud infrastructure to improve performance and efficiency, ensuring high uptime and low latency.
• Provide ongoing support for maintaining Vault services post-migration, ensuring that any operational or security challenges are promptly addressed.

1. Collaboration & Documentation:

• Collaborate with security, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure that the Vault migration and integration are executed according to organizational needs and best practices.
• Prepare clear and concise documentation regarding the migration process, configuration procedures, Terraform scripts, and security policies.
• Provide training or guidance to team members on maintaining Vault and Terraform-based automation.

1. Continuous Improvement & Maintenance:

• Ensure the HCP Vault environment is continuously improved to meet changing security needs, compliance standards, and company policies.
• Monitor Vault performance, conduct regular audits, and handle updates or patches as necessary.
• Proactively identify potential improvements and new features that could enhance security and efficiency in managing sensitive data.

Required Skills & Experience:

1. HashiCorp Vault Expertise:

• 9-12 years of hands-on experience with HashiCorp Vault in both self-managed and cloud environments.
• Deep knowledge of Vault administration, including configuration of secrets engines, policies, and authentication methods.
• Experience with Vault Enterprise and the migration process to HCP Vault Dedicated.
• Expertise in data encryption, key management, access controls, and audit logging within Vault.

1. Terraform Automation:

• Proven experience using Terraform to automate the deployment and configuration of Vault and associated infrastructure.
• Ability to create and maintain Terraform modules to facilitate the deployment of Vault across various environments.
• Experience integrating Terraform with HCP Vault for continuous infrastructure provisioning.

1. Cloud Infrastructure Expertise:

• Solid experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, specifically in managing HCP Vault within those environments.
• Experience in designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure to support Vault services, ensuring scalability, availability, and security.

1. Security Best Practices & Compliance:

• Expertise in implementing and maintaining security best practices for Vault, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, SOC2, HIPAA).
• Familiarity with integrating Vault into existing security infrastructure to manage secrets, identity management, and data protection.

1. Problem Solving & Optimization:

• Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve issues related to Vault performance, cloud infrastructure, and data integrity during the migration.
• Ability to optimize Vault deployments for high availability, disaster recovery, and cost efficiency.

1. Collaboration & Communication:

• Excellent communication skills to work with cross-functional teams, including security, infrastructure, and DevOps.
• Ability to clearly document migration processes, Vault configurations, and Terraform automation strategies.
• Capability to explain complex Vault concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
