Description of Services:
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is seeking a highly experienced Senior UX Designer to enhance user experience across TEA applications and websites. The selected candidate will ensure a user-centric approach throughout product development, contributing to education technology solutions that support parents, teachers, schools, and district leaders in focusing on student success.
The Senior UX Designer will play a pivotal role in the successful deployment of technology solutions by ensuring alignment with best practices and existing initiatives in the field. This position requires working under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
All work products resulting from this engagement will be considered “works made for hire” and will be the property of TEA. Potential vendors and their candidates may be subject to pre-selection requirements, including criminal background checks as authorized by Texas law. TEA will not cover any fees associated with interviews or discussions during the selection process.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee UX/UI designs to ensure alignment with user experience best practices and agency-wide design standards.
- Translate research findings into user stories, requirements, workflows, wireframes, and prototypes.
- Conduct user testing and outreach to validate product effectiveness in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Partner with the product team and key stakeholders, including senior leadership, to develop design solutions and rationales.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams of product designers, developers, and product managers.
Candidate Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in software product development, digital design, UX/UI, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience designing mockups and wireframes in alignment with UX best practices.
- A professional portfolio demonstrating user research, visual design, and usability studies.
- At least 8 years of experience conducting user and usability research.
- Strong writing and organizational skills with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills with at least 5 years of experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience leading large-scale UX/UI initiatives.
- At least 4 years of experience developing wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using Figma or similar design tools.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience ensuring designs and websites comply with federal accessibility guidelines.
- Preferred: 3 years of experience using issue-tracking software such as Atlassian Jira.
- Preferred: 2 years of experience working with TEA or another state/local education agency.
