Job Description
We are seeking a Senior DataStax Cassandra Administrator for an onsite contract position based in Cincinnati, OH. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting mission-critical DataStax Enterprise (DSE) clusters across production, staging, and development environments. This role demands a highly skilled administrator with in-depth experience in maintaining, optimizing, and securing Cassandra-based systems.
Key Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and manage DataStax Cassandra (DSE) clusters in various environments.

Monitor system performance and ensure cluster health by addressing latency, throughput, and node-related issues.

Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data integrity and availability.

Manage security configurations, including authentication, authorization, and compliance with data protection policies.

Perform regular patching, upgrades, and tuning of Cassandra systems for optimal performance.

Collaborate with developers to optimize data models, queries, and access patterns for application performance.

Conduct capacity planning and lead efforts for cluster scaling and expansion.

Automate routine operational tasks using scripting tools such as Ansible or similar.

Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for production support, incident response, and root cause analysis.

Maintain detailed documentation for configurations, procedures, and operational standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience in administering and supporting DataStax Cassandra (DSE) in production environments.

Strong knowledge of Cassandra architecture, replication strategies, compaction, and read/write paths.

Hands-on experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, DataStax OpsCenter).

Expertise in scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.) and automation frameworks (e.g., Ansible).

Experience with Linux system administration and network troubleshooting.

Familiarity with capacity planning, performance tuning, and disaster recovery.

Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and infrastructure teams.

Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to system health and performance.

Strong communication and documentation abilities.
