Role:                   API Engineer

Location:            Primarily remote with onsite presence once per month for team meetings. Candidates must reside in the DC, MD, VA area.

Duration:           12 months contract-to-hire

Summary:

CareFirst is seeking an API Management Engineer to support the development, maintenance, and migration of APIs using IBM API Connect (APIC) version 10 and AWS API Gateway. The role involves managing the API lifecycle, onboarding consumers through the APIC Developer Portal, integrating with backend systems via IBM DataPower, and improving performance through network updates. The resource will also assist application teams in building or migrating web services to AWS and ensure proper integration with API layers, including AWS API Gateway and the Developer Portal UI.

Required Experience

•            5+ years of experience in software development

•            Hands-on experience with IBM DataPower and IBM API Connect, with at least version 10

•            Hands-on experience with AWS Cloud

Nice to have:

•            Background in Java/Python development and familiarity with the Spring Framework

•            Experience with Jenkins Pipelines for CI/CD automation

•            Hands-on experience with AWS API Gateway

•            Experience in AWS readme mapping

•            Experience with Swagger for API design and documentation
