Job Summary:
Individuals within the Software Development job family work closely with clients, business analysts, and team members to understand business requirements and drive the analysis, design, development, and implementation of technical solutions. These solutions must align with Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) and State Agency IT strategies and adhere to the organization’s architectural standards. Software Developers are involved in the full systems life cycle, including designing, coding, testing, implementing, and supporting applications. Responsibilities may extend to technology planning, product evaluation, issue troubleshooting, and providing input to project plans.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership in the analysis, design, development, integration, testing, and enhancement of software, applications, or middleware.
- Consult with clients, business analysts, architects, and team members during the project planning process.
- Monitor project milestones and critical dates, identifying and resolving potential schedule risks.
- Lead technical evaluation and selection processes for software or middleware packages and support communication and training for their adoption.
- Assign work to project team members and communicate project status, roadblocks, and progress to stakeholders.
- Evaluate buy vs. build options, researching feasibility and providing input on system options, risk, and cost vs. benefit analysis.
- Analyze existing applications to identify weaknesses and opportunities for improvements, proposing technical process improvements as needed.
- Elicit, analyze, document, and communicate business or technical requirements, working with stakeholders to translate these into technical designs.
- Recommend procedures to solve problems considering equipment capacity, operating time, and integration of components.
- Develop and implement conversion, upgrade, and migration designs, and apply system patches or certificates.
- Assist with documentation and demonstrate examples to ensure proper utilization and maintenance of code, data, or document repositories.
- Develop specifications and recommendations for new code development or existing code reuse.
- Provide technical guidance for unit testing and support integration build activities, including input for deployment documents.
- Participate in integration testing, quality assurance testing, and assist with defect resolution.
- Document changes to architecture, integration, or conversion plans and maintain system and software architecture diagrams.
- Support software maintenance and ensure applications are production-ready.
- Provide Tier III support, troubleshooting and diagnosing errors or deficiencies in existing systems.
- Offer technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members, and develop technical documentation and reports.
- Assist with managing systems and services to meet performance targets and business needs.
- Incorporate appropriate security controls into designed solutions and support user/client engagements.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
