Job Title: Data Engineer Location: Hybrid To McLean or Richmond VA Job Type: contract Client: Capital One About the Role We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our data infrastructure and ensuring efficient data pipelines that support business intelligence and data analytics needs. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Cockroach DB, SQL, and Snowflake, along with a passion for optimizing data systems. Key Responsibilities: • Design, implement, and optimize scalable data pipelines to support data ingestion, transformation, and storage. • Develop and manage ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from multiple sources into Snowflake and Cockroach DB databases. • Work closely with data analysts, scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure data quality, accuracy, and accessibility. • Write efficient SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and reporting. • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance and implement improvements for scalability and reliability. • Support data modelling efforts and participate in database schema design and optimization. • Document data engineering processes and develop standards for data handling across the organization. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. • 6+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a similar role. • Strong proficiency in SQL and database management. • Proven experience with Cockroach DB and Snowflake (certifications are a plus). • Experience with data integration tools and ETL/ELT processes. • Proficient in programming languages such as Python or Java for data processing tasks. • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus. • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset. • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
