We just got in a QA role for the State of Michigan. They must have WCAG (web content accessibility guidelines) . In Lansing 2 days a week. Rate is $45/hr on c2c
The role: This will be a manual tester who will specifically have knowledge of the WCAG (web content accessibility guidelines) 2.1 Level AA. (AAA is the highest level of conformance in the WCAG)
Heads down testing focusing and review apps for accessibility , branding, digital standards and testing to ensure applications meet accessibility standards
manual testing – attend system coordination/demos with project teams to understand how the application works. If there are issues coordinate with stake holders to ensure resolution.
Required Skills
• A certificate or degree in any field required, Information Technology (IT) preferred
• Experience will be considered in lieu of a certificate or degree
Experience
• 1 year of testing applications for digital accessibility (preferred 3+ years)
• 1 year working with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Advanced knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA – 2.0 is acceptable
• Advanced knowledge of digital accessibility testing methodologies
• Advanced skills using assistive technologies, including JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, and other assistive technologies
• Advanced skills using accessibility evaluation tools and frameworks, including WAVE, Developer Tools, Accessibility Inspector, and other accessibility evaluation tools
• Ability to use a variety of desktop and mobile devices and operating systems (OS), such as laptops, smartphones, tablets, Windows, MacBook, iOS, and Android
• Ability to prepare detailed written documentation, maintain records, and conduct correspondence related to the work
• Ability to communicate technical terminology at a level appropriate to the audience
• Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ARIA – this one is not a must and they are not coding or dev solutions – they are just identifying issues
What moves a candidate to the top:
The more experience/years
Public sector – government experience (familiarity with states, gov, schools, etc.)
Degree in any major – associates or bachelors
Digital accessibility tools for manual testing – including JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, and other assistive technologies
