The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing the migration process while ensuring data integrity, performance, and minimal downtime. This role requires a deep understanding of both transactional (PostgreSQL) and analytical (Redshift) database platforms, as well as hands-on experience with large-scale data migration projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Migration Planning and Strategy
Analyze the existing Sybase and MySQL environments, including schema structures, stored procedures, triggers, and dependencies.
Develop a detailed migration strategy, determining the best fit for PostgreSQL (transactional workloads) and Redshift (analytical workloads).
Plan for minimal downtime, data validation, and rollback strategies in case of migration issues.
2. Schema and Data Migration
Use tools like AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), pgLoader, Ora2Pg, and AWS Data Migration Service (DMS) to automate schema conversion and data migration.
Customize migration scripts to handle complex schema conversions, such as views, functions, and triggers.
Ensure data accuracy and integrity through robust data cleansing, transformation, and validation processes.
3. Performance Optimization
Optimize PostgreSQL databases for transactional performance by fine-tuning indexes, partitioning, and query plans.
Enhance Redshift performance by optimizing distribution keys, sort keys, and using compression techniques.
Design and implement efficient ETL pipelines for Redshift using tools like AWS Glue, Matillion, or custom scripts.
4. Testing and Validation
Develop and execute comprehensive testing plans, including functional testing, data validation, and performance benchmarking.
Validate data accuracy and integrity between source and target systems.
Address performance bottlenecks and ensure all applications and reporting tools work seamlessly post-migration.
5. Post-Migration Support and Documentation
Provide ongoing support post-migration, including performance tuning and issue resolution.
Document migration processes, configurations, and best practices for future reference.
Train and mentor teams on the use of PostgreSQL and Redshift, including query optimization and database maintenance.
