Role: Data Governance Analyst
Work Location: Jackson, MS
Remote Option: 75% Onsite per month (Non-negotiable)
On-Call Required: Yes, as necessary to meet compliance oversight requirements, though rare.
Travel: Occasional (In/Out of state)
Required Skills/Experience:
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe.
- Experience in legal review and redaction of documents.
- Strong organizational skills for data cataloging and indexing.
- Knowledge of data classification and applying labels/tags based on sensitivity and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to track data lineage and transformations throughout the data lifecycle.
- Analytical skills for deriving insights from data to enhance decision-making.
- Understanding of data compliance to ensure data usage adheres to regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Ability to develop and revise policies, SOPs, and guidelines related to data management and governance.
- Knowledge of federal and state data protection laws and regulations (such as HIPAA).
- Experience in developing training materials and conducting training sessions.
- Strong communication skills for consistent and effective interaction with agency staff and external requesters.
- Experience in managing large-scale data projects and supporting data modernization initiatives.
Desired Skills/Experience:
- Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar data governance tools.
- Familiarity with public health data subject matters (e.g., disease surveillance, environmental health, vital records, professional and healthcare facility licensure).
- Experience in developing and designing data management applications and systems.
- Experience with data lakes, warehouses, lakehouses, and catalogs.
- Project management skills, including creating and implementing project timelines and maintaining focus on project goals.
- Ability to foster a culture of compliance and data stewardship across the organization.
