The Network and Communications Engineer manages, plans, secures and implements the Park District’s networking and telecommunications infrastructure, including all networking switches, routers, wireless (Wi-Fi) equipment, firewalls, and all other routers, etc. The Network Communications Engineer works with the Systems Administration Lead Technician in maintaining a relationship with telecommunication/WAN vendors and continually researches the latest technology as it applies to the current and future Park District data/voice/video infrastructure, needs and goals. This individual is responsible for two distinct networks . This individual serves as the chief configurator for all of the 50+ WAN sites via a combination of a MPLS network and VPN tunnel sites.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a computer related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Four or more recent years of hands-on experience in data network design & management utilizing Cisco router/switches, TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs and implementation in a multi-site environment.
· Demonstrated experience in the implementation, configuration and administration of firewalls, wireless networks and broadband services.
· Experience with Cisco Unified Wireless including configuration of wireless LAN controllers is desirable.
· Demonstrated PC proficiency
· Demonstrated strong project management skills
· Possessing working technical knowledge of current telecommunications practices, protocols, and principles.
· Demonstrated experience with current and legacy voice, data and video technologies including data/voice/video communications, video conferencing, audio conferencing, wireless networking, cell phones, voice over IP (VoIP), and telephone switch operations is desirable.
· Experience with radio communications preferred.
· Strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills.
· Demonstrated proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Demonstrated experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Must : have a good driving record (less than six (6) active points on driving records at the application stage of the hiring process) and possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.
CERTIFICATION:
· CCNA, CCNE, CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications desirable.
· Cisco certification highly desirable.
· Computer certification(s) in related areas desirable
