Position Summary/Job Description:
 

In this role, you will be part of a high-performance engineering team that partners with various domain teams at Best Buy to deliver innovative solutions that improve the customer dotcom experience. You will partner with Product Managers, Experience Designers and Engineers to validate the system against the requirements with automated tests. You will be expected to maintain the thoroughness needed to be able to rapidly deliver automated test suites with a dev-ops slant.

We are looking for a highly skilled test engineer with the capability to design automation tests. Test automation engineer’s duties include designing automation scripts and finding solutions for automation problems. You should also be committed to developing skills in order to provide up-to-date solutions. To be successful as a test engineer, you should be exceptionally accurate and possess a superior aptitude. Ideally, a top-notch testing engineer will be proficient in automation programming languages and have excellent time management skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning, design, development and execution of test processes, test plans and test scripts. There will be a mix of manual and automation test suites required.
  • Establish and maintain bidirectional requirements traceability to test cases. Utilizes proficiency and strong hands-on experience in developing both manual and automated test scripts.
  • Drive the current API test automation frameworks and current QA processes and develop and execute manual/automated test scripts using Cucumber and Java/Groovy
  • Implement test assertions using groovy closures to test API JSON responses.
  • Build Jenkins pipeline jobs and schedule CRON jobs to have automated tests run through it.
  • Active participation in – Standups, Sprint Planning, Refinement meetings, Retrospections, and all the QA team related meetings.
  • Own the deliverables such as Test Reports, Test Cases & quality of the code in the module/features you work, and the quality of the product tested.
  • Be an active participant in all the CI/CD activities and own the code promotion to higher environments when scheduled.
  • Collaborating with QA Analysts and Software Developers to develop test automation solutions.
  • Must be prepared to pair program in a TDD and Agile environment with senior level engineers.
  • Mentoring other team members in improving their automation skills
  • Keeping updated with the latest industry developments

 

How much time will the resource spend pair programming?
No specific pair programming, but you will be required to pair with other engineers to determine the optimal solution for your various feature or task.

What are the top five skills and number of years of experience required to perform this job?
At least 5 years of experience in all the following:

  • Proficiency in automation programming languages such as Java, Groovy, JavaScript.
  • Experience with Selenium or any other automation testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Behavior Driven Development for automation using Cucumber.
  • Experience with configuration and integration of test suites to run on automated build tools like GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
  • Experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman).

 

What are some preferred/nice to have skills the manager is looking for?

  • Understanding of Junit and Spock Testing frameworks.
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience performance testing using Apache JMeter or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with Cloud Computing platforms (e.g., Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Proficient with writing and executing SQL queries to retrieve data from Relational/NoSQL databases.
  • Any level of experience with NoSQL data stores (Cassandra,) and/or Splunk is a plus.
  • Proficient in Mac OS and/or IntelliJ for development
  • DevOps infrastructure experience
  • Highly accurate and detail oriented.
  • Excellent mathematical and problem-solving skills.
