  • We are looking for a DBA to join the team. This is not a short-term contract. We would prefer to eventually move the person to being a full-time employee, if possible, but the primary goal is to have an
    employee that can meet our skill requirements. If the selected candidate desires to stay as a contractor, we are more than willing to allow this but will also work to get to being a full-time state employee if they desire.

Top Skills & Years of Experience:
– Sybase to SQL Server (4-5 years minimum experience with Sybase and SQL) – Required
– Candidates must be experienced in troubleshooting.
– Unix/Solaris/Linux experience

 

Rate: $60-65/hr on W2 OR $70-75/hr on C2C

Minimal occasional overtime may be required.

Job Description:

  • They will need to have experience with formal change control environments. They also need strong troubleshooting skills.
  • This position is for an expected 40 hours per week Monday through Friday with two days on site. 
  • There is currently a rotation for on call during the period Saturday morning till Monday morning and this position may be required to assist with this after an initial learning period. Overtime and weekend work
    is rare and must be scheduled and approved by our customer. 
  • This is generally a scheduled project.
  • Our environment is predominantly Sybase with SQL Server. We are moving from Sybase to a pure SQL Server in approximately 3 years. 
  • The Sybase environment is 15.7 on Solaris in an X86 hardware environment within our local network. 
  • The SQL Server environment is mixed versions of SQL Server on mixed versions of Windows Server with an upcoming project to update versions. 
  • This environment includes both servers in our network and in Azure.
  • Our planned goal is to move off Sybase and a project to do this is underway and thus the need for the selected candidate to have some experience with both Sybase and SQL Server.
  • Our primary goal is to have an additional individual to assist with our Sybase 15.7. As a result, the appropriate candidate will need to have Unix background running and developing CRON jobs with command line experience. 
  • The DBA should be familiar with Sybase ASE 15.7. This can be at the level of a junior DBA.
  • The desire is to have a DBA that can assist with tasks, particularly during after hours implementations that the senior DBAs need completed to reduce the overall time required per DBA.
  • This position will also help with other tasks that occur during the week such as weekly data fixes which occur on Thursday and Friday.
  • The secondary goal is to take work off the SQL Server DBAs. This will require the individual to have some experience with Windows Servers and with SQL Server. Additionally, the person will work with clusters and with Disaster Recovery in our development, test, and production environments.
  • A strong desired experience is migration from Sybase to SQL Server.
